Mr. Iain McMullan 

 

Mr. Iain McMullan established McMullan & Co.  in August 1998 to provide strategic and operational support on the design, implementation and enhancement of fundraising programmes to education, healthcare and other “not for profit” sectors.

 

Prior to establishing McMullan & Co.  he served for two years as Chief Executive of Grenzebach Glier Europe (part of Grenzebach Glier & Associates Inc. of Chicago). During that period he was responsible for establishing and developing Grenzebach’s European business and building a portfolio of clients. His own client work included the following institutions:

 

University of Aberdeen, Universiteit van Amsterdam, University of Bath, The American Hospital in Istanbul, Istanbul International Community School (Turkey), Harrow School, The London Institute, University of Manchester, Nottingham University, St. Catherine’s College Oxford, Royal National Theatre, The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), The Wharton School.

 

From 1992 to 1996, Mr. McMullan was Director of Development at London Business School, where he established fund raising as a sustainable core activity and created a new development strategy with four core programmes: annual fund, corporate partnership, academic initiatives, and capital project. He expanded the School’s development staff from three to a team of nine, including three of the School’s own MBA graduates. During his four-year tenure in excess of £20 million was raised from gift support.

 

From 1988 to 1992, Mr. McMullan was Director of the Millennium Project for UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology), and then Director of Development & Alumni Relations. In this capacity he designed, planned, and implemented a comprehensive fund-raising strategy. During his tenure in excess of £7 million was raised in gift support.

 

Mr. McMullan began his work in the field of philanthropy in 1987, when he joined the Community Charitable Counselling Service of Canada. He served as Associate Director of the Doctors Hospital Development Fund in Toronto, Ontario, where he designed, planned, and implemented both the Medical Staff and Hospital Staff campaigns. The former campaign raised in excess of $1 million.

Since 1991, and prior to establishing McMullan & Co. , Mr. McMullan also provided support and advice to the following organisations: Outreach (Manchester), Manchester Jewish Blind Society, Manchester Samaritans, Co-Operation Ireland, Doorstep (London), and The Hall School. In addition, he has been a regular participant and a speaker at CASE programmes in Europe and the United States and regular trainer for the Directory of Social Change.

 

Mr. McMullan began his professional career in Canada in 1980. He held a number of posts as a trader of feed and food grains at Cargill Limited, Canada (1980-1986) and as a precious metals trader at the Bank of Nova Scotia (1986), Canada. He was educated at Campbell College, Belfast and the University of Durham (University College); he graduated a Bachelor of Science in 1980.
